Correct Ad Placements can earn more revenue

Google ad placement is essential if you are using Google adsense and are trying to earn the maximum earnings for your ads. After doing some research and from the information that was collected, placing your ads correctly on your blog or website, will make a big difference and will increase your revenue.

Place ads above the fold, i.e. you don't have to scroll down to see the ads. Here's why, it loads before your entire page does. The more the visibility the more chances a reader will click the ad.

Heat Map

If you notice with the above diagram there are light and darker area's, the dark orange area's represent the stronger points for placing your ads. And the light yellow represent the weakest points.

Make sure you place your ads so your readers will have easy access when they view your blog, but at the same time don't clutter your page and make it uncomfortable for your readers.

  • Here are ad units that work well for me although there maybe other units I have not try yet. I use the 468 x 60 image and text ad for my header which seems to work well for me. Example of placement on page 460 x 60 Example
  • I also use the 300 x 250 image and text ad on my sidebar which is one of the most common ads used. 300 x 250 Example
I decided to use a number of ad units for the footer of my blog just because they really preform well together.

  • The footer of your blog is the last place your readers will see so make your ads available for them as they scroll your bog.
  • I use the following ad units. 468 x 15 text ad unit and also 468 x 60 text and image for my footer. 468 x 60 text Example  and 468 x 15 text ad unit which will display up to 5 links. 468 x 15 Example.

Provide some free space around the ads so that they will stand out and users know were to find them. Don't clutter up the ads inside your content.

Experiment by changing the location of advertisements. Track them by channels to see which locations work, sometimes unusual location can do wonders for your CTR. Google Adsense support
and provides some good ideas for better blending.

Match the colors of your ads with the colors scheme of your site. Blending with your site colors helps identify them not as ads but as links similar to those of your site.

The more the Adsense looks like your site, the higher CTR you will get. You can also match the Adsense font with your website font for a better result.
